Business CPU shipments soar, except to PCs

The processor market will grow 24% this year, says IHS, driven by phones and tablets.

1.5 billion processors should be sold by the end of the year compared to 1.2 billion last year.

H1 was up 27% on H1 2012, Q2 was up 24%, Q3 is expected to grow 19% and Q4 24%.

Processor shipments to tablets went up from 38.3 million units in Q2 2012 to 53.5 million for Q2 2013.

Processor shipments to smartphones grew 38 percent from 147.9 million to 204.2 million.

PC processors in Q2 were 84.3 million units down from 89.9 million units in Q2 2012.

Processor shipments to notebook computers were down 2 percent on the year, while shipments to desktop PCs were down 13 percent.

Server processor shipments rose to 4.8 million units, up from 4.6 million one year ago.
